6:30am arrive in Beijing. Feel 90 years old from the ‘bed’.
Meet our next tour guide, Luna, and go to a hostel to shower and drop our luggage. Pack a smaller overnight bag to take up the Great Wall where we’ll stay in a different hostel.
12pm off to the wall. Stop off at our hostel for the night. Got myself a lovely double bed 😌
5 mins to the Great Wall. It took 2,000 years to build, finished in 1911; the longest construction project ever. It was the terracotta warrior dude who decided to build it to protect China from Mongolian peeps coming in robbing and fighting. Instead they’d fight on the wall and probs die there so no one got to pass.
Different dynasty’s built different parts of the wall so not all of it is connected, it’s like a network of parts. They used slaves and prisoners to build it and when they ran out they moved onto local villagers. 70-80% of them died whilst working on it and they’re all buried beneath.
Walked for ages up super steep bits of wall hoping to the see the sunset…then it just disappeared in the clouds.
Wall was pretty great. And bloody freezing. Saw some literal snow.
Made it back to the bus and went straight for din.
To the hostel for dranks and karaoke. Gonna be so ill for sunrise 🤢🤢
