Day 5 in Bal

Got 4 breakfast because no one else eats. Weirdos.

8am off to the market to see where they buy their ingredients from. Open from 4am-10am then changes to a tourist market until 6pm.

They buy flowers for the offerings, spices, fruit and veg etc.

Went to their padi field. Takes 4 months to grow then a week to dry out before they take the grain out of its little capsule. Ready to be rice.

Time for cooking class at their house. A whole compound for 15 of them. Has its own temple and individual buildings for for separate fams. A bit in the middle for wedding ceremonies and baby’s etc.

When they turn 17 they file their front 6 teeth to make them all flat to get rid of the 6 deadly sins.

When they die they bury them for five years then dig them up again to burn the burns and put in the ocean.

Pro cook now. Made rice, corn fritters, peanut sauce, skewers, pepes and pandan pancakes 👌🏼👌🏼

In the afternoon we went to Monkey forest. Scary times. Nearly got attacked within 5 minutes of being there. Bared his teeth and pounced at me. Screamed and ran away. Took the advice of ‘don’t panic’ 😏. Then got used as a spring board by a monkey jumping between trees. On edge for like a whole hour.

Early din as we’re up at 2am to see sunrise on top of a volcano. Tofu chilli with cheddar cheese 🧀

Back in bed by 8pm. Cray.
