Day 7 in Bal

7am picked up to go to the harbour. Boat over to Gili Trawangan. Finally found the white sand and blue sea.

Spot of sunbathing. Got a lovely pizza and played some ping pong and darts.

Cycled to the beach to watch the sunset. Crashed on the way home. Toe bleeding everywhere.

Out to din at a restaurant on the beach. Had a fresh mahi mahi fillet. Amazing.

Out out to a place with unlimited drinks for £7.50. Lethal.

Me and Vdog won the beer pong tournament. Free bottle of vod. Lethal.

Day 6 in Bal

2am got picked up and taken for a banana pancake and coffee before the hour and a half drive to the bottom of the volcano.

Equipped with torch, banana, bread and egg we began our climb. Just about made it up in time for sunrise. What a trek.

Saw into the crater of the volcano and was terrorised by more monkeys searching for food.

Thought the walk back down was never going to end.

Back to the ‘bungalows’ for a shower and second brek (or 3) before heading straight back out to the rice terraces. Super cool scenes. Looked like hobbit world so no need to go to NZ anymore.

Posed with a classic rice hat and pretended I’d paid to go on a swing.

Drove up to a restaurant with mad views of the volcano for lunch. Too many insta moments to choose from.

Back into town to check out the market. Everyone was hating on funky shirts. Wanted me a patchwork one but sizes were off 🙄

Had some pre din drinks at the bungalows and met the other group post din.

Been awake far too long.

Day 5 in Bal

Got 4 breakfast because no one else eats. Weirdos.

8am off to the market to see where they buy their ingredients from. Open from 4am-10am then changes to a tourist market until 6pm.

They buy flowers for the offerings, spices, fruit and veg etc.

Went to their padi field. Takes 4 months to grow then a week to dry out before they take the grain out of its little capsule. Ready to be rice.

Time for cooking class at their house. A whole compound for 15 of them. Has its own temple and individual buildings for for separate fams. A bit in the middle for wedding ceremonies and baby’s etc.

When they turn 17 they file their front 6 teeth to make them all flat to get rid of the 6 deadly sins.

When they die they bury them for five years then dig them up again to burn the burns and put in the ocean.

Pro cook now. Made rice, corn fritters, peanut sauce, skewers, pepes and pandan pancakes 👌🏼👌🏼

In the afternoon we went to Monkey forest. Scary times. Nearly got attacked within 5 minutes of being there. Bared his teeth and pounced at me. Screamed and ran away. Took the advice of ‘don’t panic’ 😏. Then got used as a spring board by a monkey jumping between trees. On edge for like a whole hour.

Early din as we’re up at 2am to see sunrise on top of a volcano. Tofu chilli with cheddar cheese 🧀

Back in bed by 8pm. Cray.

Day 4 in Bal

Leave Canggu for Ubud. Stop at a waterfall on the way and bathe in some holy water.

New place is little bungalow things for rooms, kinda cute. Bought a ball to play in the pool.

Met the other group for din at the laughing Buddha. Crispy wonton noods listening to live music.

On to a different bar but want a nap.

Day 3 in Bal

Bit of a tan sesh and pool dip after brek, then off to Kuta for a surf lesson.

Gave us super easy foam type boards so felt like a pro. Treated maself to a gelato.

Back to the hostel for a bit before out to a food court of sorts for din. Indonesian cuz, salted caz milkshake and peanut butter and banana crepe. Met the second tour guide. Spit of uncy Gene 🤔

Held a lil rabbit that was hopping about in a pizza place. Poor guy.

Out out in the mini mart again. Standard moped taxi home after some street corn.

Day 2 in Bal

Can’t stop eating until I’ve made myself feel sicc. Have a problem.

After brek we had a briefing and then off to some temples. First one, Taman Ayun, “garden beautiful”. Saw a statue of the god of the rice 😂

Next temple is Tahan Lot. Got me some spring rolls for lunch. Still feel fat from brek.

Met Johnny the possum who poos out coffee.

Super cool temple on a rock in the sea so you can only get to it at low tide. Avoided getting blessed and having to drink ‘holy water’. Also avoided holding a holy snake.

Went to Finn’s beach club for an expensive drank before back to the hotel to get ready for din. Italian. So authentic. Penne al salmone 👌🏼

Got a taxi to a small supermarket place to buy vod and they had benches and speakers outside so people can get cheap alcohol and drink it right outside the supermarket 😂

Moves on to some real bars afterwards. Came back on tour guides motorbike. Scary stuff.

Day 1 in Bal

Brek included 👌🏼 eggs, pancakes, waffles, fruit cereal 😋

Sorted my life out, did some washing etc. Then went for a wander. Beach wasn’t really what I’d hoped for, brown sand and grey sea 🤔

Came back to find my roomie. A fellow accountant. Seems classic 😴

Up to the rooftop for a cheeky Radler.

4pm met Videl and the other two gals. Identical twins that literally speak at the same time, have the same hair with the same hair band, the same piercings, same shoes and same dress just a different colour. Names are not going to be remembered.

Went to see the sunset on the beach. Sun didn’t really set, just disappeared into the clouds again.

Back for an ‘Indonesian BBQ’. Vegetarian heaven 🙄 was actually pretty deece, with corn on the cob, baked potate, salad etc.

No one drinking but some peeps still went out. Won’t waste the money on a taxi thank you very much.

Day 12 in Chin

9:30am got the metro to the airport. First flight to Guangzhou. Watched Darkest Hour (slept for most of it) and Coco.

4:15pm arrive in Guangzhou. Next flight is delayed by half an hour 😒 I wait.

6:15pm get on the plane. 7:30pm back off the plane. Walk to the other side of the airport to a new plane.

8:30pm we’re finally off. Got moved to extra leg room 😏

1:30am finally made it to Bali. Got some currency and became a millionaire.

Transfer to ma surfer hotel. Bed is most welcome.

Day 11 in Chin

6am back up the wall to see the sunrise. Feeling like absolute poo.

Had a lil nap when we got back before leaving to go back to Beijing.

Off to the forbidden city via Tian’anmen square; an area in front of the forbidden city used for training and celebrations. Saw chairman Mao’s Mausoleum. Inside is his actual body, they took his insides out and replaced it with medicine or something to preserve his shell 🤢

Forbidden city as it was forbidden to go in or out without the permission of the emperor.

He had a napping palace. Absolute goals. And even got carried there so he didn’t have to walk.

Tried to go up to the viewpoint to get a 🦅 👁 view of it but the south entrance was shut and we didn’t have time to walk round to another gate 🙁

Back to the hostel quickly before going to an acrobatics show. Super crazy stuff. 6 peeps on motorbikes going round a cage ball all at the same time 😳

Off to din. Duck. Absolute torture but I made it through and stayed strong 💪🏼 treated myself to a McFlurry on the way home.

Said bye bye to everyone. My last night in ma home country.

Day 10 in Chin

6:30am arrive in Beijing. Feel 90 years old from the ‘bed’.

Meet our next tour guide, Luna, and go to a hostel to shower and drop our luggage. Pack a smaller overnight bag to take up the Great Wall where we’ll stay in a different hostel.

12pm off to the wall. Stop off at our hostel for the night. Got myself a lovely double bed 😌

5 mins to the Great Wall. It took 2,000 years to build, finished in 1911; the longest construction project ever. It was the terracotta warrior dude who decided to build it to protect China from Mongolian peeps coming in robbing and fighting. Instead they’d fight on the wall and probs die there so no one got to pass.

Different dynasty’s built different parts of the wall so not all of it is connected, it’s like a network of parts. They used slaves and prisoners to build it and when they ran out they moved onto local villagers. 70-80% of them died whilst working on it and they’re all buried beneath.

Walked for ages up super steep bits of wall hoping to the see the sunset…then it just disappeared in the clouds.

Wall was pretty great. And bloody freezing. Saw some literal snow.

Made it back to the bus and went straight for din.

To the hostel for dranks and karaoke. Gonna be so ill for sunrise 🤢🤢
